A thick bank statement does not explain why you are travelling.

A fictional situation

Anita’s next decision

Anita plans a short visit and starts saving every document she can find. The growing folder still does not answer some simple questions: how long she intends to stay, where she will stay, who will pay and what her circumstances are at home.

She writes a concise account of the real trip and checks whether the evidence supports it consistently. Records that contradict the plan become issues to resolve, not pages to bury in the bundle. Her useful next step is an honest, coherent application based on her own facts, without inventing commitments or assuming a larger file is automatically stronger.

An illustrative scenario, not a client story or an example of a successful application.

Start with what you really plan to do

Standard Visitor permission can cover tourism, seeing friends and family and specified business activities. It does not generally permit employment for a UK company, and the permitted-activities rules contain important limits and exceptions. Before selecting a visa route, check whether you need a visa, another permission such as an ETA, or a different category altogether.

Make the documents describe the same trip

Write a short factual timeline: who is travelling, the purpose, dates, accommodation, funding and planned departure. Then compare that account with the invitation, employer or study information, bank evidence and application answers. Do not fabricate a booking or create a false explanation to smooth away inconsistencies.

A wedding guest is different from someone planning to marry

Attending a family wedding as a guest is different from travelling to give notice of marriage, marry or form a civil partnership. The latter may require a Marriage Visitor route or another suitable category; the Standard Visitor rules should not be stretched to fit.

Key takeaways: what to do next

  • Start here. Write the genuine trip plan first and use evidence that consistently explains its purpose, funding and circumstances.
  • If the facts are clear, compare them with the current official guidance below and list the evidence still needed. Keep the purpose of each document clear.
  • If a fact is uncertain or disputed, flag it before submitting or paying for application work. Ask whether the issue needs an adviser with different authorisation or experience.

Frequently asked questions

Does everyone need a Standard Visitor visa?

No. Check the entry permission applicable to your nationality and journey; an ETA and a visa are not interchangeable.

Can I visit relatives?

Family and friend visits can be permitted under the route, subject to the overall rules.

Can I attend a business meeting?

Specified business meetings may be permitted, but carrying out ordinary work for a UK company is different.

Can I get married as a Standard Visitor?

Not under the ordinary Standard Visitor permission; check the Marriage Visitor or other appropriate route.

Does an invitation guarantee approval?

No. It may support the purpose of travel but does not displace the full requirements.

Do I need non-refundable flights?

Do not assume prepaying travel will strengthen the application; check the current documentation guidance and avoid unnecessary financial commitments.

How long can a visitor normally stay?

Up to six months is common, but admission, permitted duration and special categories depend on individual facts and the applicable rules.

Is the £500 professional fee the full travel cost?

No. It is UK VISA TAX's professional fee for the specified suitable straightforward application; third-party and government costs are additional.

What is the practical lesson from Anita’s example?

Write the genuine trip plan first and use evidence that consistently explains its purpose, funding and circumstances. The example is fictional and does not establish eligibility or predict a decision in another case.
